the pledge:

If elected as Councillor, I pledge to advocate for and actively work towards increasing social and key worker housing in my ward and the broader local government area. I believe that more diverse housing options are essential for the wellbeing and success of our local community, and I am committed to ensuring everyone has a safe, secure, and affordable home.

About the pledge:

The Coalition for Housing Diversity is a group of non-market housing advocates and housing providers working to create a more equitable Melbourne and believe that housing for all Australians is an essential infrastructure that is the basis for a future prosperous Australia.

The coalition recognises the critical shortage of non-market housing supply, and the need to deliver more housing for more people across all of Melbourne, especially to those most vulnerable.

As part of the 2024 Victorian Council elections, we will be asking all candidates across Melbourne to make a single pledge which recognises the important role that local government has in creating the additional housing supply required. Otherwise, the social and economic impacts that a lack of sufficient housing will create will significantly erode the quality of life of future generations.

For the purposes of this pledge, diverse housing options include: public housing, community housing, disability housing, key/essential worker housing, cohousing, retirement housing, crisis accommodation, women’s shelters, supported and disability living, and other non-market housing options.
